Spring is in the Air: How to Get Your Home Ready for Spring this Year

This post was written by Kelly Martin, stay at home mother of two. When Kelly is not tending to her family, she can be found curled up on the couch with her nose in a good book.

Spring is always welcome after cold nights and wintry weather. The icy temperatures can be rough on your lawn as well as your plants and flowers, making the start of spring a time to spruce things up and welcome warmer days. Even if you can’t work on the outside of your home right away, you can start preparing the interior as the seasons change.

For indoors:

To ready your living space for spring, there are several things you can do to get started. First, give your home a good spring cleaning. Go through each room of your house and do a thorough cleaning by wiping down baseboards and dusting off shelves. Wash windows and fix any broken light fixtures. This update may take more than one day, but the payoff will be worth it. By giving your indoor space a good cleaning, it can make things look refreshed and new again, just like the trees and plants outside.

Buy some fresh blossoms to create a wonderful smell of spring throughout the house. With Easter occurring in early April this year, Proflowers Easter flowers can make for beautiful inexpensive spring decor perfect for this time of year. Flowers immediately brighten up a space and make it feel more homey.

For those on a budget, consider repurposing old furniture. If you have shelves or a table that has been collecting dust, think about adding a fresh coat of Behr paint to make it seem like new again. Add in a pop of color to an otherwise neutral room or think about a brand new color scheme altogether. After all, new season, new look.

For outdoors:

When things finally start to thaw out, you can take a look at how you can improve your yard. There are a few easy things to do right away. Consider adding a new welcome mat to your front door. The one you have now may be caked in mud, dingy, or just ready for an upgrade.

Give your home exterior a wash. Take care of the windows and spray down the sides of the house to clear it of debris and dirt. If it’s really dirty, you can use a power washer, but normally just a spray from your garden hose will do the trick.

Clean out the weeds and plant some flowers. Flowers and spring go hand-in-hand and you can never have enough. Tulips, lilies, or irises are pretty choices that make the outside of your home more appealing and will definitely signal you are ready for spring.

However you decide to take on your home improvements, remember you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make your place look great. Cleaning, a few updates, and fresh flowers are usually all it takes to make your home emerge from hibernation and head into spring with a new appeal. You will see what a difference it makes and how accomplished you feel after all is said and done. Take before and after photos to see the side-by-side results of all your hard work.
