I prefer to use natural pest control remedies whenever I can; here are some safe and effective natural ways to keep your home and garden free of those little critters.

There are plenty of chemical pesticides available in the market today. In fact, they are easily accessible and are used in multiple places, including farms, gardens, houses, offices, sheds, shops, storerooms, among other places.

1. Coffee Grounds 

Don't just throw away your coffee grounds. Instead, strategically place them around areas where there are ants and other bugs. They work as instant pest and insect repellant. 

2. Mint 

Ants are not a fan of the distinctive odor that mint leaves emit. So, place mint tea bags around areas where you'll most likely find ants and they will be gone in no time. 

3. Hot Pepper 

It's easy to mix a hot pepper spray that you can use against the pests in your garden. First, mix one gallon of water and three tablespoons of hot pepper. Then, Simmer in a frying pan for 15 minutes, leave it for 24 hours. Lastly, mix with a few drops of dish detergent. Use it on your plants to protect them from bugs and other insects. 

4. Apple Cider Vinegar 

This is an excellent natural remedy for trapping fruit flies. Have it in a container that can attract them and not let them out. 

5. Beer 

Beer can be used on multiple household pests. For example, use it as a bait for ants. Set a beer container in front of a mini ramp and the scent will attract pests. 

6. Cornmeal 

This is a long-term remedy for getting rid of ants. So, just place it in a place where ants can reach it and eat it. 

7. Cucumber 

Another quick and easy remedy to the list of ant repellents is cucumber. First, cut up slices. Then, place them in areas you have ants. 

8. Cloves 

These are very useful and effective in keeping away rodents. You can use real cloves or have it in essential oil form to spray areas where rodents roam. 

9. Cinnamon 

Ants, flies, and spiders hate the scent of cinnamon. So, sprinkle some cinnamon in areas they like to roam. 

10. Lavender 

Lavender is effective in repelling various types of bugs disturbing you. For instance, mosquitoes, moths, fleas,  and many other insects. Use the actual plant or a lavender essential oil to deter all of these unwanted insects. 

11. Boric Acid 

The acid kills roaches, fleas, wasps, and ants when they consume it. Therefore, sprinkle some of it on the floor and just wait for these insects to drop dead. 

12. Chrysanthemums 

Chrysanthemums contain pyrethrins. This is a mixture of chemicals that work as natural pesticides against a number of insects, for example cockroaches, mosquitoes, fleas, flies, moths, and ants. 

13. Citrus oil 

It's a very concentrated essential oil that gets rid of different insects, including spiders and fleas. 

14. Cedar 

It's an old remedy for keeping insects and other unwanted species away.  So, use cedar chips to prevent termites, certain ants, moths, mosquitoes, and cockroaches. Similarly, it can also repel snakes and rodents. 

15. Catnip 

This plant contains nepetalactone, an active chemical which is used to put off various insects. For instance, roaches, flea beetles, mosquitoes, ants and other small insects. 

16. Soap 

Simply mix soap and water to kill bugs such as aphids, mites, and slugs. 

17. Banana Peels 

They're very useful with terminating aphids from your garden. So, cut up banana peels and bury them deep in the soil to make your plants healthy and pest-free. 

18. Essential Oil Mixture 

Use a mixture of different essential oils to kill mites. For instance, lavender oil, peppermint oil, etc. 

19. Essential Oil Candle 

Melt candle wax and mix it with essential oils to repel flies. 

20. Neem oil 

It contains high amounts of salannin, and it's very effective in terminating mosquitoes and termites.

Natural pest control methods are so popular. This is because some of the items are just common items we see at home. Also, these methods work effectively in the prevention or extermination of pests.  

However, we should always bear in mind that if these things don't work for some reason, there are professionals who are ready to deal with our pest problems.

  1. Ants also do not like chalk. They will generally not cross a chalk line. Use a piece of chalk to draw a line across an entryway or windowsill where you see ants coming in.
