Simple Interior Design Tips to Spice Up the Home

A few years ago I decided that I was sick of how my home looked, that it wasn't at all my taste, and it really made me upset seeing how it looked. At the same time, I knew we'd be moving in the near future and didn't want to invest a lot in decorating a home that was only temporary. Fortunately, I figured out some low cost ways to turn my home into something that made me smile. I hope you like these suggestions from Stacy about how you can decorate your home on a budget. I especially like the last tip.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to make your home look great and be the type of relaxing and inspiring space that you want to come home to at night. With a few great products and a little ingenuity you can spice up the décor of your home on just about any budget. It’s always a good idea to start a refresh of your current space by looking over the elements that you do have.

Reusing and repurposing furniture and decorative items that you already have is the best way to make a big impact without spending much money. Maybe a table that you’re using the bedroom can be used in the dining room instead. Or that old dresser in your child’s room can be painted and used as an entry console table with storage for gloves, hats, and other small items. Think outside of the box.

Once you’ve exhausted all the possibilities for the furniture and items that you already have it’s time to start getting creative with ideas to get new decorative items and furniture that will transform your home without breaking your budget. Here are a few ways that you can achieve a great new look without spending a lot of money:

Get Some Quality Furniture

If you’re going to spend money on a totally new look you should spend that money wisely. The best thing that you can spend your redecorating budget on it new furniture. Furniture sets the mood and tone of the room. But it is possible to get great furniture without spending thousands of dollars. Rustic, affordable quality furniture like Amish furniture pieces such as Amish bookcases or wooden coffee tables make a statement without taking up your entire budget. And the timeless appeal of comfortable and rustic Amish furniture means that you can change your décor again and again and the furniture will still look great.

Personalize Your Décor

Your walls are a blank canvas. And a fantastic way to personalize them is with bespoke, custom made wall murals. Wall murals made of family photos, or your children’s baby photos, or photos of your last family vacation are a great way to add a unique twist to your home décor that will also make your home personal and welcoming. Custom wall murals are an affordable way to cover large walls and to add a lot of visual interest to a space. Gallery walls are totally overrated. Custom wall murals are the next big thing.

Washi Tape Your Existing Furniture

Washi tape is a unique textured tape that won’t damage cupboards, furniture and walls. It’s fantastic for renters because it’s easy to remove. But it’s also great for homeowners on a budget that want to personalize their space. Washi tape comes in thousands of styles, patterns and colors. You can use decorative washi tape to change the color of furniture without having to strip it, prime it, and paint it. You can also use Washi tape to add patterns and decorative elements to stairs, cupboard doors, furniture, walls, and even floors.

Custom Window Treatments

Another great way to change the look of a room on a budget is to create your own window treatments. With a sewing machine you can turn any fabric that you want into beautiful custom curtains for your home. Your children’s baby clothes, or a favorite blanket, or any other special fabric can transform and personalize your living room or your children’s rooms. You can also use a beautiful fabric that you find at a second hand store or garage sale and create one of a kind window treatments from it.

Hold A Décor Swap

A great way to get new items for your home without spending any money is to get all of your friends together and have everyone bring at least one household item that they want to get rid of. Then everyone who attends can find new décor items that are totally free.
