My Frugal Accomplishments This Past Week

So it's that time of the week again where I share what frugal things I got up to, no matter how many frugal things I did or didn't do that week!

And finally! A week where I did a decent amount of frugal things so I don't have to feel uncomfortable sharing how few frugal things I did in my weekly round up.

Here's what I did to save money this week.

My Frugal Accomplishments This Past Week

Frugal Shopping

I price compared and bought myself a new quality cell phone, portable chargers, and cell phone plugs from Aliexpress, instead of waiting until mine died (mine is on the way) and I need to buy a new one much more expensively locally.

I did a big frugal grocery shop and built up my stockpile including in my freezer.

I was next to a grocery store that has discounted chicken, went inside because I needed some, and found whole chickens on sale, if you spent over $28 dollars. I spent $29 dollars on items I would have bought anyhow elsewhere, and got that cheap chicken.

Frugal in the Kitchen

I took the cheaply bought chicken and divided it into chicken breast, that I made for one meal, chicken frames that I used for soup, and dark meat which I used for another meal.

I made gluten free egg free restaurant style sesame chicken.

I reheated and used previously stale homemade donuts.

Made From Scratch

I made jaggery syrup to use as a honey replacement. Hands down the cheapest non refined sugar available locally.

I made gluten free vegan sfinge, Moroccan donuts.

I made gluten free vegan almond chocolate chip cake using this perfect vanilla cake recipe.

I made gluten free vegan mint chocolate cake (this cake, plus mint extract).

I made gluten free vegan Worcestershire sauce.

I made harissa, Tunisian hot sauce.

I made gluten free rolls for my Tunisian fricassee.

I ground a few pounds of gluten free flour, both white rice flour and sticky rice flour.

I made homemade taco seasoning.

I made homemade gluten bread.

I made salsa.

I made guacamole.

Other:
I hung a load of laundry, on the rack, inside, because it was raining outside, instead of putting it in the dryer.

I got a coat a month ago and its lining already ripped in two places, so when I was in the area anyhow, I brought it back to the store and they are going to send it to the "lab" for them to either fix it or decide to replace it.

What frugal things did you get up to this week? Any accomplishment you're especially proud of?

  1. I thought of you today. I pressure cooked 1kg of dried chicken peas that I’d soaked overnight. I added 2 cups to soup made from odds & ends in the fridge; made 2 huge tubs of hummus & falafels; turned two very large overripe tomatoes + a sad looking pepper into matboucha; rescued the last aubergine (eggplant) from my garden to make a dip. So that was lunch & supper. And I’ll freeze the rest of the chick peas in portion sizes to use as needed.
