What are multi-family homes and are they right for you?
Want New Clothes Without Spending Money? Host a Swap Party!
A swap party is an event where people trade clothes that they no longer want for those that they actually like. After all, just because someone has fallen out of love with a clothing piece, doesn’t mean that it’s worn or drabby. Who knows, a friend’s unwanted garment might be your next great closet item. The best part? You won’t have to pay a dollar for your stylish threads, as hosting a swap party costs close to nothing. Besides being good for your pockets, swap parties also have a lot of other benefits.

When "Drugs" Are Actually Good; How Narcotics Are Now Being Used Medicinally
I wrote this article a few months back for someone but in the end they didn't want it published, so I had it just sitting there, unused and unpublished. But it is so jam packed with useful information that I felt I needed to share it with you. Between when I wrote this and now I got my medical marijuana license and it is very helpful for my health issues.
------------------------------------
Don't do drugs.
Don't do drugs.
Don't do drugs.
Did you grow up with that message repeated to you until you could repeat it in your sleep as I did? Drugs are bad, people who do drugs are bad, stay away from drugs, etc...
The thing is, as there has been more education on the topic, people are starting to realize that the topic of "drugs" is complicated indeed.
There is a reason why there have been legalization and decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs in many places in the world- there has been more and more awareness on the beneficial medicinal uses of some of these drugs. Yes, some drugs are bad, bad, bad, and can permanently destroy your brain. However, other so-called drugs are not only not harmful but are actually beneficial for many people. This isn't nearly as black and white as we were led to believe.

5 Health Benefits of Eating Lobster
But there's some good news. For one, lobster is extremely simple to prepare as boiling is one of the most delicious ways to enjoy the flavors. This means you can pay the grocery store price and have an unforgettable dinner without paying restaurant prices.
The second is that when you do splurge on lobster, you're not only getting heaven in your mouth, but it's also incredibly healthy for you. It often gets a bad rep for raising cholesterol levels, but it's full of vitamins and protein. The unhealthy reputation it receives is actually due to the way it's sometimes prepped and served.

Landfill Emissions and Their Impact on the Environment
The quantity of waste that is dumped in the landfills is even more appalling. Each year, millions of tonnes of waste are dumped in US landfills with dumpster rentals or other means.
Most of the waste dumped in local landfills is made up of organic matter. Such organic matter can stay in the landfills for a very long time. This organic matter often emits gasses that can have an adverse impact on the environment.
Landfills and Waste Management
Landfills are where our trash ends up. They're essentially dumps that fill up with garbage brought by dumpsters as time goes on. These landfills are essentially a resting place for all of our trash. But they don't stay there forever as such, as this trash naturally decomposes.
Landfills emit a number of different pollutants into the air. The most prominent is carbon dioxide which contributes to climate change and is harmful to the Earth's ecosystems.
However, landfills also emit methane which is a greenhouse gas that has a greater effect on climate change than carbon dioxide. Landfills also emit chemicals like dioxins which are harmful to human health. These chemicals can travel through water and air. Even if we live far from a landfill, the impact of these chemicals is harmful and can be detrimental to everyone’s health.
Gas Emissions Caused by Landfills
Landfill gas emissions are one of the issues which are causing irreparable damage to our environment.
In spite of the fact that we are under the umbrella of environmental protection, the fact is that landfills are the most significant source of trash emissions. Over the years, local authorities and private organizations have made a lot of effort to reduce the amount of emissions released by landfills.
A couple of years back, no one would have thought that landfills emit greenhouse gas that harm our environment. But the truth is that they do, and this gas is responsible for speeding up global warming and climate change. The solution to reducing landfill emissions is simple enough but is, unfortunately, not very feasible. What we have to do is to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Negative Impacts of Landfill Gas Emissions
The other problem with landfills is that they can leak, causing harmful contaminants to get into the water supply. The earth underneath the landfill can also collapse and sink, which can damage homes, roads and buildings that are above ground.
Soil movement isn't the only negative effect of a landfill, either. The greenhouse emissions from landfills are unhealthy for humans to breathe. Not only is it unsafe for nearby humans and animals, but it can also cause global warming.
Landfill Leakage
A landfill can be leaking. Perhaps it was slowly leaking for some time, or perhaps it just happened one day, the result of heavy rains that evening. Whatever the cause, the black sludge can seep through the cracks in the walls, sinking through the soil and into the groundwater.
The surrounding community's wells would begin to run dry. Then, it is only a matter of time before the sludge reaches a major water supply, and when the townspeople come to investigate the cause of the water shortage, they will find it is the landfill.
Clearly, landfills can leak. This can be a problem not only because it can damage the environment, but because its consequences can be costly. However, one of the most important things that can be done to make sure landfills are stable and won't leak is to have a landfill layout done according to the latest specifications.
In order to prevent leakage, it's important to have a system in place that allows for water runoff from the landfill. The best way to do that is by making sure that the landfill is built to prevent liquids from seeping through the ground and causing it to saturate the soil.
It's also important to make sure that any pipes or drains have watertight seals to prevent liquids from coming through. Essentially, if this is done correctly, there should be no way for toxic liquids to leak.
Steps You Can Take to Reduce Landfill Emissions:
If you are concerned about the environment the best way you can take action is to reduce the amount of waste you create. There are countless ways to achieve this. You can start by using reusable shopping bags, bringing your own water bottle, and using reusable/refillable containers. If you have a lot of junk at home, rent a roll-off dumpster to get rid of it all at once.
You should also get in the habit of composting your food waste. Composting is a process of breaking down organic material and making use of it to fertilize your plants. This process contributes to reducing your carbon footprint and will also encourage you to buy less products since the food will decompose much faster.
Using a combination of the following tips can help reduce the impact of the amount of waste and landfill emissions that you or your business produce. Electricity is responsible for much of the greenhouse gas emissions and associated waste, so take steps to reduce energy consumption by installing energy efficient appliances, turning off lights and electronics when they are not in use, and turning down the thermostat during the cooler months.
Landfill gas emissions are a serious issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. We can't continue to produce so much waste, especially in our digital age. We also can't afford to continue to damage our environment by releasing so many pollutants in the atmosphere.

How Can I Add Class to My Home On A Budget?

Exciting News!
I have really exciting news, nearly 3 years in the making!
In the summer of 2019, I needed to fly to the US (long story, ridiculous situation), and I decided that while I was there I would renew my American driver's license that I had gotten at the age of 18 and expired on my 21st birthday. In my country, in order to get a drivers' license, you need to take over 25 lessons with a paid driving instructor, but if you have a license from another country you can convert it to a local one. Since mine was expired, I needed to get a new one before I could transfer mine, and so decided that while I was in the US I would take another test. I paid for a few local driving lessons before flying to the US, since it had been 12 years since I had last driven, and I wanted some refreshers to ensure I'd pass. And fortunately, within my 3 days of being in Cleveland, I took my driver's permit test and my driving test and passed both on the first shot. This was especially important for me to be able to do then since I had planned on getting divorced and wanted to be able to be more independent.
I'd thought it would be a simple thing to just switch my license over to here since I passed the test in the US on the first try, but since it had been so long since I moved to my country, I needed to first take the theory test, which I thought would be simple, since I passed in the US in three different states on my first try (Ohio, New York, and Washington State), but here I decided to take the test in the local language since I knew how terrible their English translations were, but I failed that test when I took it in the local language because there were a lot of trick questions and I had a hard time seeing through the tricks in the local language. I did a bit more studying and then took the test in English, and bad translations and all, I passed it that time.
In the meantime, I drove with my kids on our trip to Bulgaria, and taking advantage of my newfound American international drivers' license, I started driving locally with it too, even though you're only allowed to drive with your foreign license for one year after becoming a citizen here. And because of that, getting a local license went on the back burner. Until I got into a car accident here and insurance wouldn't pay for it since I had no local license, and I needed to pay $2500 out of pocket for repairs.
That got my butt into gear to actually get a local license.

Why I Wouldn't Breastfeed a Child Again
I know, it's a weird topic for someone whose youngest kid just turned 8, but I was doing a lot of thinking about self care and knowing my needs and limitations (why I so desperately needed this break that I was on), and I wanted to share with you my thoughts and reflections about having breastfed my children.
So, let me take you back 15 years. I'm pregnant with my first and am determined to do everything right as a parent. I had a pretty miserable childhood, and I'm going to make sure to do everything right for my child. Be the best parent I could possibly be, making sure that they had everything emotionally I never had growing up.
Just, already there, you can probably see where I'm getting at.
I decided to go full on crunchy mama attachment parenting mode, intervention free birth, exclusively nursing, co-sleeping so my baby could feel comforted by me all night long, babywearing, and of course no sleep training. Add to that cloth diapering and being a stay at home mom... I read all the parenting books, worked very hard on doing the "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen" stuff, etc... Let my kids know that I'd be with them, no matter what, and they could always count on me.
I homeschooled them, at least one kid always, until my oldest was 12.
Nursing played a very big role in my life as a mother. I had heard that you shouldn't switch off between a bottle and nursing because at first it can cause nipple confusion and later it makes babies less interested in nursing because taking the bottle is easier. So nursing it was. Other than for a period of about a month where my then husband watched my eldest, Lee, while I was working (he must have been between one and two months for that duration). During that time he got a bottle from his dad, but then Mike said that he couldn't manage to get the baby happy, so from that point on I brought Lee with me to work, and no more bottles. After that month, he also started rejecting a pacifier whenever I tried giving him one. And from then on, that was it.

My Much Needed Getaway, a Coronacation
As I wrote last week, I desperately needed a vacation because of being so burnt out, having been "on" for far too long. I looked for a place that would be enjoyable to just chill, hang out, and veg out in quiet for a few days. My goal was to stay at a home that had good amenities, the actual city or town it was in was by far not the important thing for me. I just so happened to have found a great Airbnb in a city that is a resort town, where people go scuba diving and snorkeling, and I said great, I'll go there- the accommodations are the main thing and the location is just an added bonus, maybe I'd do some snorkeling (I bought myself a snorkel and flippers about 3 years ago), but who knows.
Of course, as luck would have it, my daughter Anneliese came down with corona last week. I tested everyone in the family and the rest of us were negative. Two days later I started to feel sick, really bad sinus headache, muscle aches (but muscle aches are pretty normal for me), post nasal drip, a slight cough, aand exhaustion. I was sure I had corona too, but I took test after test (a few a day even) and they all came back negative, so I figured it must have been a sinus infection.
I came to this city, popped to the beach for a little bit, then decided to do a corona test, because I still had a hard time believing that I didn't have corona... and guess what? This time it came back positive. Of course, by Friday I was feeling nearly 100% better. And that, of all times, is when it comes back positive?
So now I'm in quarantine in the apartment here, and my stay has been extended until I finish quarantine. And you know what? I'm actually totally fine with that.
