I went to make it, opened up my French dressing recipe and realized that I didn't have two of the ingredients- ketchup or worcestershire sauce- not store bought and not my homemade versions...
But that wouldn't stop me- I decided to make it with the "base ingredients" for ketchup, and make an entirely from scratch recipe- and wow. It's perfect! Tastes like store bought French dressing, but better. And lots healthier!
(And isn't that salad just so tempting? Foraged some chickweed and sow thistle for this one!)
Homemade French Dressing Recipe- Entirely From Scratch- Refined Sugar Free, Vegan, and Delicious!
Ingredients:2 tablespoons chopped raw onion
1 small clove garlic
1/2 cup coconut sugar or 1/3 cup white sugar or 1/4 cup honey
3/4 cup oil (non strongly flavored liquid oil- I used sunflower- olive or coconut oil won't work for this one)
6 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (or other non strongly flavored vinegars, like white vinegar)
6 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon mustard powder
Instructions:
1. Place the onion, garlic, coconut sugar, and vinegar in a blender/food processor.
2. Blend until the onion and garlic are fully smooth.
3. Let sit for 10 minutes for the coconut sugar to dissolve.
4. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend up.
5. Use immediately or refrigerate. This likely will last at least a week or two in the fridge, if not more.
Enjoy!
Are you a fan of French dressing? Do you usually buy it or make it from scratch? Does this look like a recipe you'd try at home?
My husband loves French dressing, and we never seem to have it on hand. I'll try this -- all stuff out of the pantry. thanks!
